“Lost in Europe” is a multi-part investigation spanning Italy, France and the UK into the more than 10.000 missing migrant children who have been declared lost by the head of Europol since 2015. The multimedia collaboration between artist/photographer Ahmet Polat, investigative journalist Geesje van Haren and graphic journalist Dan Archer features animation, comics, photography, film and audio that allow the collaborators to protect the identity of the protagonist –especially important while working with minors – while preserving the power of their stories. The team of journalists, scientists and data visualization experts addresses the larger question of “Why, where and how many migrant children go missing in Europe?”. The project, supported by National Geographic foundation, will be published in Spring 2021.
